Learning from Tradition
Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) is prioritized at Big Lagoon Elementary. We reach out to our local community for guidance and we support Afterschool Adventures with supplementary curriculum.
Learning the Nature of Science while finding the Science in Nature
Afterschool Adventures uses the science and engineering practices matched with crosscutting concepts to help students engage directly with nature.
Growing Independence
Teaching gardening during Afterschool Adventures gives lifelong skills to the students on their path to realizing food sovereignty.
Northcoast Adventures
Each Wednesday our group goes on adventures with hikes of up to 3 miles through the Sitka Spruce forest and to Big Lagoon. We currently go fishing once a month.
